Upload a file

Upload a CSV, TSV, Parquet or Excel file to turn it into a table the model owns. Mycorr reads the file in your browser, guesses its settings, and shows you a preview before anything is created.

Anyone who can edit the model can upload, its owners and its collaborators alike. A viewer who drags a file over the canvas sees "Only people who can edit this model can bring tables in."

Upload a file

There are two ways, and both end in the same table:

  • Drop it on the canvas. Drag one or more files from your computer onto the canvas. Each becomes a table where you drop it. If Mycorr can't read a file with confidence, it opens the upload panel with the file loaded and tells you what to check, for example "File is not UTF-8 — confirm the text encoding in the Upload panel".
  • Use the upload panel. With nothing selected, choose Import → File on the action bar. The Upload File source opens in the Import tab on the left. Drop the file there or click to choose it, check the preview, then click Import.

Several files dropped together are imported one after another.

Formats and sizes

FormatExtensionsLargest file
CSV and TSV.csv, .tsv250 MB
Parquet.parquet, .pq200 MB
Excel.xlsx, .xlsm200 MB
Older spreadsheets.xls, .xlsb, .ods25 MB

A SQLite file (.sqlite, .db) is not an upload: add it as a Local SQLite connection instead, and pick its tables from there.

CSV and TSV settings

Mycorr reads a sample of the file and fills in each setting. Check the preview, and change a setting only if the preview looks wrong. auto-detect puts every setting back to Mycorr's guess.

SettingWhat it sets
EncodingThe file's character encoding, for files that aren't UTF-8. Mycorr marks it as a guess: "Text encoding is a guess — if the sample above looks wrong, pick another".
DelimThe character between fields: ,, ;, Tab or `
QuoteThe character around quoted fields: ", ' or None.
HeaderYes if the first row holds column names, No if it is data.
Decimal SeparatorAuto, , or .. Set it when numbers use a comma for decimals, as in 3,5.
SkipHow many rows to skip at the top, such as a title above the data.

Two warnings can appear under the settings, and both keep your data safe rather than guessing:

  • Numbers that could be read two ways. When a column holds values like 1,234, Mycorr can't tell thousands from decimals. Pick the decimal separator, or the column stays text.
  • Rounded identifiers. A column that looks like identifiers a spreadsheet rounded before export, such as 1,23E+12, is kept as text. The missing digits are not in the file; export it again with the column formatted as text.

Column types are inferred from the values. Anything that doesn't parse consistently as something narrower stays Text, which loses nothing and can be cast later.

Excel workbooks

A workbook opens Choose tables to import, with a tab for each sheet. A sheet can hold more than one table, so you say which ones to bring in:

  1. Mycorr outlines the table it found on the sheet as a Suggested table. Choose Add suggested table to take it.
  2. To pick a different range, drag across the table on the sheet, header row included. Add as many tables as the sheet holds.
  3. Give each table a Table title.
  4. If a table's field names run down its first column rather than across its top row, switch on Import transposed.
  5. Click Import.

A range that is already in the model is marked In this model, so you don't import it twice.

Numbers and headers arrive as the sheet shows them. A number column takes the sheet's decimal places and thousands separator when every number in it is formatted the same way; the stored value stays exact, and you can change the display afterwards. A header formatted as "Year "0 is named Year 0. The same applies to a one-time import of a Google Sheets range.

After the upload

The new table is owned by the model: anyone who can edit the model can edit its cells, add columns and rows, and link it. Its history starts with the upload, and you can checkpoint and release it like any other table.

An upload counts toward the storage of the organization that owns the model. If that storage is full, the upload is refused; see Usage and limits.
